Basketball: Film Study Sessions

Why Studying Film is Important for Basketball Players
Watching film is one of the most effective ways for basketball players to improve their decision-making, court awareness, and overall IQ. By breaking down plays, understanding defensive rotations, and identifying both their strengths and weaknesses, players can gain a strategic edge on the court.
At RDE Sports, we integrate basketball film study sessions into our training model so athletes can alternate between physical skill development and intellectual game refinement. Whether it’s analyzing their own footage or studying college and pro-level play, our coaches guide athletes through film with insight, structure, and purpose.
How a Basketball Film Review Session Works at RDE Sports
A basketball film review session is designed to be focused, personal, and actionable. Our coaches can lead a guided breakdown of your most recent game or practice footage. Together, you’ll pause, rewind, and analyze key sequences: decision-making, shot selection, reading defenses, body language, and more. After the review, you’ll receive direct takeaways you can immediately apply. You can even schedule a workout immediately after the session to put into practice what was just learned, reinforcing corrections through action.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a film review session cost?
A film review session generally costs $25. Please contact our team for more detailed pricing information and reduced pricing plans for purchasing sessions in bulk.
Who is able to participate in a basketball film review session? Can parents or coaches come too?
The athlete and a dedicated coach will participate in the film session. Parents and coaches are welcome to join, too!
How long does each session last?
Each session can range in time, depending on the amount of film, and how in-depth we want to get. A session will generally last between 30 minutes to an hour.
How far in advance should I schedule my session and do I need to send over the film beforehand?
We’d prefer scheduling a session at least a week in advance. You can send film over beforehand, or bring it with you at the time of the session.
What type of footage can we review? Is it strictly game film?
We can work with anything! Game film, practice, or even footage from a training session. Any and all material can be useful and implemented in strategic review, although game film is preferred since it provides our coaches with a live setting to analyze.
How often should I schedule a film review session?
This can vary! Sometimes once per month is adequate. Sometimes the athlete and coaches may find they need more time for review. There are many factors that can help determine how often it is needed.
